A major fire outbreak has destroyed large portions of the newly opened China City Mall located near the Santasi Roundabout in Kumasi, Ashanti Region. The incident occurred in the late afternoon of Thursday, October 30, 2025, sending panic among traders and shoppers.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started around 4:00 PM and spread rapidly across the building due to highly flammable materials. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) deployed several tenders to the scene and worked tirelessly to contain the blaze.
Thick clouds of smoke could be seen from several kilometres away. Thankfully, there have been no reported casualties as all occupants were evacuated safely.
However, millions of Ghana cedis worth of goods and property have been lost, with most shop owners left in despair as their investments went up in flames.
Authorities Respond
The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive and other officials visited the scene shortly after the incident, pledging support to affected traders. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
